Rehearsal Reminder
Attendance Policy Reminder
Musicians are expected to attend all rehearsals and concerts for the full duration of the season. If a musician is absent from, leaves early, or arrives late to any of these functions more than 3 times, he/she may be asked not to perform at the upcoming concert at the discretion of the conductor and the orchestra president. If a musician has a legitimate conflict (including illness), the musician shall be responsible for notifying Mr. Su at 310-377-6821 (caelmersu@yahoo.com), AND Schola Tsai at 310-544-2218 (pvroscholatsai@gmail.com) or Diana West at 310-766-1921 (loveylovey@cox.net) in advance of your absence. Unapproved absences and tardiness demonstrates a lack of commitment, a lack of consideration for your fellow musicians, and a lack of respect for your conductor.

Young Violinists Open House
Another successful Open House for the Young Violinists. There were over 125 people in attendance and now we have over 35 new young violinists that have signed up. Thank you Michelle Whitesides (chairperson) for organizing this event. The audiences were entertained by our musicians from the orchestra and last year young violinists. After the presentations, Mr. Su and the Teaching Assistants were busy helping all the new violinists measure for the right violin.
Welcome Social and Registration
More than 200 musicians, parents and friends attended our Welcome Social and Pot Luck on Saturday, September 12. It was great to see everybody all together, it was like a big family reunion with lots of great food. Members from the Board discussed the goals of the orchestra and expectations of each member. Representatives from the LDS church Stake Presidency, Young Men, Young Women and the Primary program gave us an overview of what programs each organization has to offer to our young men and women. For the entertainment of the night, Jessie Chen, Lucy Wang & Karen Su, accompanied by Jason Griffin, performed beautiful music for us to enjoy. Playing the trivia game "Get to know the orchestra better", was a lot of fun and knowledgable. After the presentation, the musicians were busy registering while the parents were signing up for the snack schedule or socializing. What a fun night!!

New President and Vice-President
We are honored, excited and humbled to accept our calling as the President (Schola Tsai) and the Vice-President (Diana West) of the orchestra. There is so much to learn. Becoming familiar with each musician and learning the names of all the different musicial instruments will be our first challenge. We have always enjoyed the performances and now we have even more opportunities to listen to all of your beautiful compositions. We look forward to getting to know and work with each talented musician and parents personally.

Thank you Kiem and Kathy
After faithfully serving for 5 years as the President of the Orchestra, Kiem Anderson officially retired on June 27 at the Independence Day Celebration concert. Kiem has brought the orchestra to higher levels each year. She has grown to know and love all the musicians and the parents.Thank you Kiem for a job well done. We'll miss you. Don't be a stranger. Come back and visit us.
As the Vice President of the Orchestra, Kathy Hall has introduced a lot of new programs to the orchestra. She has organized different parents' committees (concert preparation, hospitality, music librarian), the President's Volunteer Services Award, to name just a few. Kathy has put in numerous hours organizing all of these programs. Because of her upcoming busy schedules and other commitments, Kathy will not be returning as the Vice-President for the next season. Thank you Kathy for all you've done for us.

PV Orchestra ends the 2008-2009 season with a "BIG" Bang
In celebration of the July 4th, PVRO ended the season with an Independence Day Celebration Concert on June 27. An electrifying night of favorite American orchestral classics and patriotic songs attended by well over 250 people. Thank you Mr. Su for another successful season. Without his extra-ordinary talent and leadership, we would not be here today. Our sincere thank you goes to all parents and friends who had volunteered and helped us throughout this season. This season was made possible with their courage, vision, dedication and hard work .
PVRO Performed at Sunrider
The Palos Verdes Regional Orchestra and Young violinists performed a beautiful, free concert at the Sunrider Headquarters in Torrance on Saturday, May 9, 2009, to an audience of 300. Many commented after the performance that the young musicians were “Amazing!” Along with the performance, the Los Angeles LDS Mission President, President Blackburn, gave a special Mother’s Day message about the importance of mothers and women. Sunrider has sponsored this orchestra for several years, and it has grown to be a great success in the South Bay community. Children and adults of all ages are invited to participate in the orchestra, which has regular performances throughout the year, at no expense to themselves other than instrument rental/purchase. The orchestra, conducted by Elmer Hsu, has drawn together a very talented group of children and teenage virtuosos who will surely go on to perform professionally after finishing school. Sunrider is proud to sponsor the orchestra as an effort to educate through music
and create unity throughout the community.
